The Christmas 2004-Valentine 2005 campaign is dedicated to the memory of Emma J. Butz, who passed away in February 2004. Our deepest sympathy to Mrs. Butz's family, and to those who were lucky enough to know this great lady.

Mrs. Butz says the Fan Mail campaign has been a wonderful hobby for about 10 years. All the military people she has received letters from have been terrific. Many have phoned and visited. They arrive with "a big smile, and a big hug and kiss, as though they have known me forever. They fit in like family."
Though she has a large family (5 sons, 1 daughter, 9 grandsons, 7 granddaughters, 1 great grandson and 3 great granddaughters), she still has room in her heart for our wonderful military folks.
One Navy man she has known since 1989 lived at her home for 18 months when he was stationed in the area. Since being transferred he visits when possible.
"It's too bad more people don't get involved. They don't know what they are missing. I know this is not a short note, but when I talk about my military pen pals I get really excited and can't shut up. It is truly wonderful to reach out to them and get such wonderful responses... They...need to know someone cares about them.
Your organization gets bigger and better each year. You are doing a wonderful service for our young people. Thank you..."

[We wish to thank Mrs. Butz for the very kind words! The truth really is that the organization gets bigger and better every year because of her and the thousands of other wonderful folks around the nation who invest so much effort and dedication.]
