U.S. Marine says, "We can't get enough!"

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (Home of Fort Bragg and the 82nd Airborne) -- Individuals and families all across the nation--in schools and churches, with campus groups, youth organizations, veterans groups and auxiliaries, etc., are already writing fan mail to our troops at home and abroad for the Christmas 2002 Military Mail campaign.

"We know that U.S. troops across the nation and around the world appreciate the fan mail they receive," said G.B. Wiser, executive director of the program. One message from a young Marine read in part, "We are on our way to help...fight the war against terrorism. One of my fellow Marines recently received a package from you filled with mail from...the states. I want to personally thank you for all your efforts...you have made to help us through the tough times. Could you please send more of these heartfelt letters... We can't get enough of them."

Mail from all over the nation is sent to Friends of Our Troops headquarters, where it is thoroughly mixed, then separated into well over 1,000 packages of mail to be sent out. "The packages range in size from just a handful for small units up to several thousand for an entire base or one of the Navy's large ships," said Wiser. "This helps to get an appropriate amount of fan mail to all those places."

As the continuation of the Vietnam Mail Call program established in 1965, there have now been more than 35 years of service to, and support of, our soldiers, sailors, Marines, airmen, and coast guardsmen.

Special thanks are extended to the top participants in the most recent campaign: AmVets and Auxiliary Post 33 of Dayton, OH; Emma J. Butz of Trumbull, CT.; Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel of Loretto, PA.; Navy Wives Clubs of America MenRiv Park #240 of Goose Creek, SC; West Virginia Northern Community College, Wheeling, WV; Pine Grove Area High School Army JROTC of Pine Grove, PA.; Glen Meadow Middle School of Vernon, NJ; and Memorial Elementary School in Milford, MA.

A visual overview of how the campaign functions has been posted in the on-line photo album, http;//www.troopfanmail.net/album.htm. In addition, there are special pages for schools, colleges, churches, veterans groups, youth groups, Catholic, etc.

To learn how everyone can help boost morale by writing fan mail for U.S. troops all across the U.S. and around the world, send your name and address (along with a first-class stamp for return postage) to Friends of Our Troops, P.O. Box 65408, Fayetteville, NC 28306. (And mention where you read about the Fan Mail for the Troops campaign.) Thank you!

P.S. Your military friends and loved ones can be the BMOC/BWOC (so to speak) when they receive a big package of mail to share with their fellow service members. Send their name and complete military mailing address--be sure the address is current and complete, along with your name, address, phone number and e-mail address (if any). All information is kept strictly confidential.
